Original Civil War Era Primitive Knife Dagger BowieHere we have a very interesting knife that just hsa that look about it that if you like older antique primitive knives i know you will love! While always hard to impossiable date somthing like this exactly it certainly has all the characteristics of an older civil war period knife. This knife has a blacksmith forged double edge blade that is baout 7 inch long, mostly forged to shape it does show some marks where it was finished with a file. Blade might have been forged from a file but i don't see any traces of teeth so don't know. Has a ince tapered tang just like you would expect. At fist glance it looks like it may be missing it's guard but fater looking at it i don't think it ever had one. Blade is a bit rusty with a couple small chips but not really all that bad and is in keeping with the rest of the knife. Handle looks to me to be hickory which has been slotted to take the blade tang. On the outside both sides have checkering grooves hand cut into them, toward the butt end looks like at one time was painted black, don't know.Tang is held into the handle with a most unusual method. Two wood screws go in one side and through the tang and into the other. Seems to be working fine as knife is very solid. Interesting a piece of wood sliver has been fitted in the one side of the tang slot.

Knife measures about 12 1/2 inch overall. Really a very nice primitive fighting knife that i am sure you will be very happy with. Starting auction off low with no reserve and only $4.90 postage anywhere in the usa and slihgtly higher for foreign buyers. One note.
